1. Rowdy Tellez, just four plate appearances away from a $200,000 bonus, was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

2. TitThe Pirates also released outfielder Michael A. Taylor and promoted Liover Peguero and Josh Palacios from Triple-A.

3. Tellez, signed to a one-year deal, would have earned the bonus at 425 plate appearances but was cut at 421.

4. Pirates GM Ben Cherington claimed the bonus was not a factor in the decision.

5. Tellez became a fan favorite during a mid-season surge despite earlier struggles.

6. Cherington acknowledged the tough business decision but said it wouldn't negatively affect team morale.

7. Taylor, also on a one-year deal, struggled with a .193 average, five homers, and 21 RBIs.

8. His playing time decreased after Oneil Cruz moved to center field.

9. Peguero, 23, led Pirates minor leaguers in hits, RBIs, and doubles.

10. Palacios previously hit .230 in 20 games with the Pirates earlier this season.
