Funny stories 39 – The Haunted Campfire and the Radioactive Submarine

Funny stories another part start as :

It was a chilly autumn night when a group of friends decided to go on a camping trip. The idea was simple: pack some food, travel to the beach, and enjoy a night under the stars. Among the group were Jane, an optics enthusiast; Tom, who worked with infrared lights; Lisa, a marine biologist with a fascination for submarines; and Sam, who carried a barometer everywhere he went, for reasons no one quite understood.

beach

The beach they chose was known for its clear night skies and an eerie legend of a haunted submarine that had once washed ashore. Naturally, this made the trip all the more exciting. As the sun disappears below the horizon and cast long shadows and bring a ghostly chill to the air, they set up their campfire.

“Perfect night for a ghost story,” Jane said, her eyes twinkling with mischief.

submarine

Tom, who always had a funny story up his sleeve, grinned. “I’ve got a story that will make your hair stand on end!”

As they sat around the campfire, their faces illuminated by the flickering flames, Tom began his tale.

“Many years ago, there was a submarine that roamed these waters. It was said to be on a secret mission, carrying a radioactive cargo. One stormy night, the submarine got lost and crashed into the reef just offshore. The crew never made it back, and some say their spirits still haunt this beach, especially when the moon is full.”

laptop

Jane, who had brought her laptop to track the stars, checked the time. “It’s a full moon tonight,” she said, adding a dramatic effect.

Sam, fiddling with his barometer, added, “And the atmospheric pressure is dropping. Spooky.”

Lisa rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide a small smile. “Come on, guys, ghosts don’t exist. But dolphins and starfish do! I saw some earlier when we were setting up.”

shooting star

The conversation was interrupted by a sudden movement in the sky. A bright light flashed across, momentarily turning night into day.

“What was that?” Lisa asked, her scientific curiosity piqued.

Tom shrugged. “Probably just an airplane.”

Jane shook her head. “No, that was too bright and too fast. Maybe it was a satellite or some optical phenomenon.”

marshmallows

Sam checked his barometer again. “Or a sign that something’s about to happen.”

They laughed, trying to shake off the unease that had settled over them. To lighten the mood, Lisa suggested they cook some food. They had brought a variety of snacks, including marshmallows, hot dogs, and even some radioactive-green cupcakes, a playful nod to the legend of the haunted submarine.

As they roasted marshmallows over the fire, they heard a strange sound coming from the water. It was a low, haunting wail, like the cry of a lost soul.

dolphin

“Did you guys hear that?” Jane whispered, her eyes wide.

“Probably just a dolphin,” Lisa said, though she didn’t sound convinced.

Tom, ever the joker, grabbed an infrared light and pointed it towards the ocean. “Let’s see if we can spot our ghostly submarine crew.”

To everyone’s surprise, the infrared light revealed a dark shape moving just below the surface. It was large and slow, definitely not a dolphin.

moonlight

“Could it be the submarine?” Sam asked, his voice trembling.

“Or a really big fish,” Lisa said, trying to sound brave.

The shape moved closer to the shore, and as it did, the campfire flickered wildly. The friends huddled together, watching as the outline of an old, rusted submarine became visible in the moonlight. It looked exactly like the one from Tom’s story.

“Okay, this is officially creepy,” Jane said, her voice shaky.

sailor

Tom laughed nervously. “It’s just a coincidence. Maybe it’s an old wreck that got uncovered by the tide.”

But then, something even stranger happened. The hatch of the submarine opened with a loud creak, and a figure emerged. It was dressed in an old-fashioned naval uniform, and its eyes glowed with an eerie green light.

“Who dares disturb our rest?” the figure intoned in a ghostly voice.

Jane, thinking quickly, grabbed her laptop and pointed its screen at the figure, hoping the light would scare it away. Instead, the figure seemed to recognize the device.

“A laptop! Finally, someone who can help us. We’ve been trying to contact the living world for ages!” the ghostly sailor exclaimed.

radio

The friends stared, dumbfounded. Was this some kind of elaborate prank?

“I’m Lieutenant Green,” the ghost continued. “Our submarine crashed here many years ago, and we’ve been stuck ever since. We need your help to fix our radio so we can call for help.”

Tom, seeing an opportunity for fun, said, “Sure, we’ll help. But only if you promise not to haunt us.”

sun began to rise

Lieutenant Green agreed, and with Jane’s technical skills and Tom’s knowledge of infrared lights, they managed to get the submarine’s old radio working. The ghostly crew was ecstatic and promised to leave the beach forever once they were rescued.

As the sun began to rise, the friends watched as the submarine slowly sank back into the ocean, taking its ghostly crew with it.

“Well, that was the most bizarre campfire story ever,” Lisa said, shaking her head.

night

“And the most fun,” Tom added with a grin.

They packed up their camp, feeling a strange mixture of relief and exhilaration. As they drove away, they couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of the night’s events.

“Next time, let’s just stick to ghost stories and marshmallows,” Jane suggested.

“Agreed,” everyone chorused, knowing that this adventure would be a story they’d tell for years to come.
